[ MTC RESOLUTION NO. 1, S. 2011, April 12, 2011 ]

AMENDING SECTION 5 OF RESOLUTION 07, SERIES OF 2010, “APPROVING MARPOL 73/78, ANNEXES I – VI CONSOLIDATED TRAINING COURSE”

WHEREAS, on 15 December 2010, the Maritime Training Council passed Resolution No. 7 approving MARPOL 73/78, Annexes I – VI Consolidated Training Course;

WHEREAS, Section 5 thereof provides that “Seafarers who have completed training in accordance with the provisions of this Resolution, either in a training center or in a maritime school, shall be issued a NAC certificate for MARPOL 73/78, Annexes I – VI”;

WHEREAS, it is not a NAC certificate that must be issued to seafarers who have completed the training on MARPOL 73/78, Annexes I – VI but a training certificate by the training center providing the same;

WHEREAS, the completion of the said course by graduates of maritime schools for the BSMT or BSMarE programs shall be indicated in their transcript of records as it will be a prerequisite for their application with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) for issuance of Certificate of Competency;

NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of the foregoing premises, the Council RESOLVES, as it is hereby RESOLVED, that Section 5 of said Resolution be amended to read:

“Seafarers who completed their training in training centers in accordance with the provisions of this Resolution shall be issued training certificates in MARPOL 73/78, Annexes I – VI. On the other hand, MARPOL 73/78 shall be reflected in the Transcript of Records of the graduates of BSMT or BSMarE program for the issuance of Certificate of Competency by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).”

This Resolution shall take effect fifteen (15) days after publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
