[ PROCLAMATION NO. 856, June 09, 2005 ]

DECLARING 13 JUNE 2005, MONDAY, AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

WHEREAS, Independence Day which is observed as a regular holiday on June 12th of each year, commemorates the heroism and self-sacrifice of our forefathers in the struggle for national independence;

WHEREAS, the commemoration of Independence Day falls this year on a Sunday; and

WHEREAS, 13 June 2005, Monday, may be declared as a special (non-working) day pursuant to existing laws, rules and regulations.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, by authority of Her Excellency GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, do hereby declare the following:

SECTION 1. 13 June 2005, Monday, shall be a special (non-working) day throughout the country.

SECTION 2. All activities and celebrations in observance of Independence Day shall, however, remain to be observed on 12 June 2005, Sunday.

SECTION 3. The Department of Labor and Employment shall issue the appropriate guidelines to implement this Proclamation.

DONE in the City of Manila this 9th day of June in the year of our Lord, Two Thousand and Five.
