BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES TO DETER PIRACY IN THE GULF OF ADEN AND OFF THE COAST OF SOMALIA

In an effort to continue protecting Philippine flagged-ships and Filipino seafarers from piracy attacks particularly when passing through the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Coast of Somalia, all shipping companies trading overseas and other relevant maritime entities are hereby enjoined to implement on-board the attached [*] “Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy in the Gulf of Aden and Off the Coast of Somalia.”

All concerned are also enjoined to implement the attached “Additional Guidance for Vessels Engaged in Fishing, Supplementary to the above-mentioned Best Management Practices” as contained in MSC 86/WP.7/Add.1.

These best management practices, contained as Annex to MSC86/18/2 have been adopted by the Plenary of the 86 th Session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC86) which was held in London from 27 May-05 June 2009.
