SUBJECT : UN Security Council Resolution No. 917 (1994)

Attached for your information and for whatever action you may deem appropriate thereon, is a copy of UN Security Council Resolution No. 917 (1994) which took effect on May 21, 1994, imposing new and additional sanctions against Haiti.

The Department of Foreign Affairs, in its letter dated May 16, 1994 is inviting our attention to operative paragraphs 4 and 11 of subject-resolution.

Sir :

Please be informed that on 06 May 1994, the United Nations Security Council adopted unanimously Resolution 917 (1994), imposing new and additional sanctions against Haiti, thereby establishing a comprehensive commercial embargo against that country. The resolution shall take effect not later than 2359 hours Eastern Standard Time (EST) on 21 May 1994.

In this regard, may we invite your attention to operative paragraphs 4 and 11 of the resolution. As a member country of the United nations, the Philippines is duty bound to comply with such provisions. The Department would therefore like to request your Office to undertake actions necessary for the implementation of this specific provisions and report the same to the Department.
