THE RESEARCH PROJECT OF LAWASIA ON ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION

LAWASIA, a law organization which includes retired Chief Justice Marcelo B. Fernan among its officers, is presently undertaking a nationwide documentation of human rights abuses including what is described as administrative detention .. LAWASIA defines administrative detention as detention with or without warrant where such detention involves abuses of the rights of the detainees, such as delay :i.n the tr:i.a!l. of the cases.

The research project will involve interviews with detainees., police' officers., lawyers, prosecutors and judges,. The project has already started in Manila as the pilot area and within the next few months., the project will be conducted in selected areas around the country by interns of the Ateneo Human Rights Ceivter.,

All Presiding Judges and personnel of all trial courts Ar&r directed to extend assistance to the interns in the fieldwork that they will undertake.
