AUTHORIZING THE OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE PHILIPPINE WOMEN JUDGES ASSOCIATION, INC (PWJA) TO ATTEND THE MULTI-SECTORAL CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON FEBRUARY 8, 2010 FROM 8:30AM TO 5:30 PM AT THE PARKLANE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL CEBU

The Philippine Women Judges Association (PWJA) and the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) with support from the Dutch Government conducted a research study on sextortion. The research was done in Manila, Pampanga, Cebu, and Davao using survey and key informant interviews. Respondents were judges, prosecutors, defense counsels, detention officers, barangay officials and non-government organizations.

The research study was conducted to find out respondents' awareness of sextortion and the extent of the problem at their respective areas. Findings and recommendations will assist PWJA in i) publishing a final, valid, and comprehensive country report on sextortion; ii) formulating a validated tool kit and skills-based training design for judges, prosecutors, law practitioners, and law enforcers to address sextortion as a crime against women and other members of the community; and iii) building the competence of judges, prosecutors, law practitioners, and law enforcers in handling sextortion cases.

The PWJA and IAWJ will present the results of the research study before a multi-sectoral group from the representatives of the pillars of the Judicial System to validate the findings and recommendations. The Multi-Sectoral Consultative Meeting will be held on February 8, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Parklane International Hotel, Cebu City.

In connection therewith, Hon. Teresita A. Galanida, Presiding Judge, RTC, Br. 56, Mandaue City, is hereby authorized to be in Cebu City on February 8, 2010.

The attendance of Judge Teresita A. Gaianida shall be on OFFICIAL TIME, provided that the court calendar is properly managed and parties are notified of any cancelled hearings.
